Selkirkish is a small, family-run Selkirk Rex cattery based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We have been breeding Selkirk Rex for 8 years from our home, raising every kitten underfoot as a member of the family. We are TICA registered and breed exclusively for pet homes. We do not sell to other breeders, resellers, or for any commercial purpose.

The Selkirk Rex is a calm, affectionate, family-friendly breed with the famous teddy bear coat that has earned the nickname "the cat in sheep's clothing." Selkirkish kittens come in both shorthair and longhair varieties and in a full range of colors including black, white, blue, orange, calico, chocolate, lilac, and tortie patterns. Every Selkirk Rex, regardless of color, has the same patient temperament that makes them ideal for families with children, other cats, or dogs.

Health is the foundation of our breeding program. Every parent in our cattery is tested negative for the four main feline genetic concerns: PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease), HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy), FIV, and FeLV. We do not breed any cat that has not been screened, and we will share full health test results with prospective buyers on request. Both parents are also evaluated for temperament before they enter our breeding program. We believe a healthy Selkirk Rex starts with healthy, well-socialized parents.

Our kittens receive full veterinary care from birth. By the time they go home at 12 weeks of age, every Selkirkish kitten has completed their initial vaccination series, been dewormed on schedule, received a vet-issued health certificate within 48 hours of travel, and been socialized to family life including children, household sounds, gentle handling, and basic litter training. We send each kitten home with a starter kit including familiar food, a blanket carrying the scent of the mother and littermates, and complete medical records.

We offer a written one-year health guarantee covering genetic and congenital conditions attributable to our breeding. In the rare event that a covered condition is diagnosed within the first year, we offer a partial or full refund or a replacement kitten depending on the situation. We also offer a full refund or replacement in the unlikely event of death during transport. Full guarantee terms are available on our website.

Selkirkish ships our kittens to families across the United States. We offer three delivery methods chosen based on your route, timeline, and the kitten's needs. Pet nanny service flies the kitten in-cabin with a professional handler. Licensed ground pet transport is ideal for nearby routes where flying would be unnecessarily stressful. Pickup directly from our home in Albuquerque is always welcome for families who prefer to meet us in person. Delivery costs are quoted transparently before payment with no hidden fees.

We currently have available kittens in lilac bicolor longhair, cinnamon tortie bicolor longhair, and cream bicolor shorthair. Our standard kitten price is $850, the same regardless of color or coat. We do not charge premium prices for rare colors. We believe every Selkirk Rex kitten deserves a loving family, and pricing should not be a barrier to finding the right match. Families who cannot find their ideal kitten among our current availability are welcome to join our free waitlist for future litters.

Beyond the initial adoption, we offer lifetime breeder support to every Selkirkish family. Text or email us anytime with questions about grooming, behavior, diet, or health. Eight years into our cattery, we still receive messages from families about kittens we placed in our very first year of breeding. The relationship does not end when the kitten goes home.

Selkirkish prioritizes ethical breeding practices over volume. We have a small number of carefully chosen breeding cats and produce only a few litters per year. This means our kittens are limited, but it also means every kitten receives the individual attention they need to develop into a confident, social adult cat. We do not run a kitten mill, do not breed any cat more than is healthy for them, and retire our breeding cats young to give them long, comfortable lives as beloved family pets.

If you are interested in a Selkirk Rex kitten, we welcome questions from anyone considering the breed for the first time. We will tell you honestly whether the Selkirk Rex is the right fit for your household, your allergies, and your lifestyle. We would rather lose a sale than place a kitten with the wrong family.
