Cat Breeder Directory lists catteries across all fifty US states, every one registered with a recognised American association such as CFA, TICA, or ACFA. List your cattery for free and claim your spot.
How to Search for Cat Breeders Near You
Cat Breeder Directory works differently from a plain list of names. Instead of scrolling endlessly, you search by location and let the map do the work — the fastest way to find a breeder within reasonable travel distance of your home.
Search by Your City or State
Type your city, state, or ZIP into the location field on the Explore page — for example “Austin, Texas” or simply “Ohio”. The map recentres on that area and shows every registered cattery within it. Because the search is map-based, you can zoom out to see neighbouring states or zoom in on a single metro area. Responsible breeders are worth travelling for: the right cattery two states away is often a better choice than a questionable one around the corner.
Narrow Down by Breed, Colour and Pattern
Once you are looking at your region, add filters. Choose a breed to see only, say, British Shorthair catteries; add a colour such as silver or blue; add a pattern such as tabby or colourpoint. This is the heart of what Cat Breeder Directory was built for — being able to filter for something specific, like a silver Cornish Rex, instead of hoping to stumble across one. You can also filter by cat club (CFA, TICA, ACFA), or show only catteries that currently have kittens available.
Buying a Kitten Safely
Wherever you buy in the US, the same principles protect you: see the kitten and a parent live, confirm registration and health testing, and never pay by a method you cannot dispute. We have put together a full, practical guide to help you buy with confidence.

A Brief History of the Cat Fancy in the United States
Organised cat breeding in America is older than most people expect. The first major cat show in the United States took place in 1895 at Madison Square Garden in New York, modelled on the earlier British shows. Fittingly, the winner of Best Cat that day was a brown tabby Maine Coon named Cosey — a nod to one of the very few breeds that developed naturally on American soil, in the harsh winters of the Northeast.
The show sparked a movement. In 1906 the Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) was founded and went on to become one of the largest registries of pedigreed cats in the world. Decades later, in 1979, a group of fanciers formed The International Cat Association (TICA), which pioneered a genetics-based registration system and became known for recognising a wide range of breeds. Alongside the American Cat Fanciers Association (ACFA), founded in 1955, these organisations form the backbone of the modern American cat fancy — and are the registries most reputable US catteries belong to. When you choose a registered breeder today, you step into more than a century of continuous breeding tradition.
