The Norwegian Forest Cat, known as Norsk Skogkatt in Norway, is a large, majestic breed that evolved to survive harsh Scandinavian winters. With its thick water-resistant double coat and powerful build, this natural breed is both impressive and gentle.
History
Norwegian Forest Cats have lived in Norway for thousands of years, appearing in Norse mythology. The modern breeding programme began in the 1930s and the breed was officially recognised in Europe in the 1970s.
Appearance
Large, powerful cats with a triangular head, almond-shaped eyes, and tufted ears. Semi-long water-resistant double coat in most colours. Bushy tail as long as their body.
Character
Gentle, calm, and moderately social. Independent but affectionate on their own terms. Active and athletic, love climbing and outdoor exploration.
