Ocicat Cat Breeders

Introduction

The Ocicat is a strikingly beautiful breed resembling a wild ocelot but entirely domestic in origin. Created through deliberate crossing of Abyssinian, Siamese, and American Shorthair breeds, it has a spotted wild coat pattern with a completely tame, sociable personality.

History

Created accidentally in 1964 by Virginia Daly through breeding Abyssinian-pointed Siamese. A spotted kitten resembling a miniature ocelot was born. The breed was recognised by the CFA in 1987.

Appearance

Medium to large, muscular body with a distinctive spotted tabby pattern. Short, satiny coat in 12 colour variations. Almond-shaped eyes in any colour except blue.

Character

Confident, outgoing, and highly social. Despite wild appearance, very domesticated and people-oriented. Easily trained and gets along with children and other animals.
