The Russian Blue is an elegant naturally occurring breed from Russia, renowned for its shimmering blue coat, brilliant green eyes, and gentle reserved temperament. Loyal and affectionate with their families but shy with strangers.
History
Believed to have originated in Arkhangelsk, northern Russia. Sailors brought these cats to Britain in the 1860s. Nearly wiped out after World War II and rebuilt using British Shorthairs and Scandinavian blue cats.
Appearance
Medium-sized, slender but muscular body with a distinctive short, dense double coat of blue-grey with a silver sheen. Vivid emerald-green eyes. Gentle smile created by slightly upturned mouth corners.
Character
Gentle, reserved, and extremely loyal to their chosen family. Shy with strangers but deeply affectionate with those they know. Intelligent and enjoy routine.
