Documented in Turkey for centuries. Imported to Europe in the 17th century and nearly bred out of existence. The Ankara Zoo maintains a preservation programme today.

Slender, elegant body with fine bone structure and a distinctive long silky single-layer coat. Available in many colours and patterns with a long plumed tail.
